Women's Hockey Falls Behind Early in 10-2 Loss Versus Minnesota State

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team fell behind by too much on Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn. Minnesota State scored five first-period goals on its way to a 10-2 victory over the Lady Lions.

The Mavericks scored 4:49 into the game and then added four more goals in an eight-minute span midway through the period. The Lady Lions cut the Mavericks' lead to four at one point in the second period, but Minnesota State added one a goal late in the second period and three more in the final 20 minutes of play.

Penalties hurt Lindenwood's comeback chances as the Lady Lions were called for seven minors throughout the game, and Minnesota State scored three power-play goals. Minnesota State went to the box five times, but the Lady Lions couldn't convert any of those opportunities into goals.

Alison Wickenheiser scored her second goal of the season with 2:10 left in the first period. Samantha Moore became the latest Lady Lion to record a program first when she scored shorthanded in the second period. Allysson Arcibal assisted on Wickenheiser's score. Taylor Fairchild made 52 saves in goal.

Lindenwood falls to 0-4 against its inaugural NCAA schedule. The Lady Lions travel to Robert Morris (Pa.) for a two-game series next weekend.
