Storyline
The Lindenwood football team has one of its most important tests of the season this Saturday. The Lions travel to Texas A&M-Kingsville to take on the Javelinas. Texas A&M-Kingsville has advanced to the NCAA Division II playoffs the last two years and is currently receiving votes in the national poll.
Lindenwood ends a three-game road trip with the Texas A&M-Kingsville game. The first two games did not go the Lions' ways as they have lost to Missouri S&T and South Dakota. Last week, Lindenwood fell 30-0 to South Dakota, its second NCAA Division I opponent of the season. The Coyotes allowed just 147 yards to the Lions, while their offense was five-of-five in the red zone for 27 of their points.
Lindenwood needs to get the fuel back into its high-scoring offense this week. The Lions averaged 48 points a game in their three wins to start the season, but have scored just 6.5 points a game the last two weeks.
Texas A&M-Kingsville snapped its two-game losing streak last week with a 39-21 win over Texas A&M-Commerce. The Javelinas have won this year with defense. Texas A&M-Kingsville is allowing 12.7 points in its victories, but 43 points a game in its two setbacks. The Javelinas are averaging 418.2 yards of offense, including 275.8 yards through the air.

Sacking the Quarterback
Lindenwood is averaging 3.8 sacks a game this season. That mark would tie for ninth if the team was eligible in the NCAA Division II statistics. The Lions are on pace for their most sacks in a season head coach

Picking Off Passes
Justin Broome has intercepted three passes this season. He needs one more to enter Lindenwood's top-10 single-season leaders list.
Compared to NCAA Division II players, only 13 have more than three interceptions in 2011.
200 Tackles Milestone
Chris Howard reached 200 career tackles last week with 10 stops against South Dakota.
The senior leads the team in tackles on the season with 35, including tying for the team-high with 22 solo stops. He has finished in the top three on the team in tackles in every game but one, and has led the team in tackles for the last two games.
Rush Defense
In the team's three victories this season, the Lions have allowed 42.0 rushing yards a game. In the two losses, it has allowed 149.0 rushing yards a game.
For the season, Lindenwood is averaging 84.8 yards a game, which would rank in the top 20 in NCAA Division II.
Pass Defense
Lindenwood has held four of its five opponents this season under 200 yards passing. The Lions have allowed five touchdown passes and have intercepted three passes.
Lindenwood also has 17 pass breakups, including four by
Christian Golder and three from
Chris Springer.
McGowan's Running
Therman McGowan is the team's top rusher this season, averaging 65.4 rushing yards a game. He is averaging 5.3 yards a carry, and over 24% of his carries have resulted in a first down or a touchdown.
Quarterback Play
John Uribe is completing 61.7 percent of his passes in his first year as a Lion. He is averaging 234.4 passing yards a game and has thrown seven touchdowns. Over the last three games, Uribe has thrown just one interception.
Big Play Receivers
The trio of
Andrew Helmick,
Alex Robinson, and
Mike Bunton have been the go-to receivers this year. The three have combined for 65 receptions for 752 yards and four touchdowns. Thirty-seven of their receptions have resulted in a first down or touchdown.
Lindenwood has 19 pass completions for 20 or more yards this year. Seven of those throws have been completed to Helmick.
On third downs,
Alex Robinson has been the top receiver with seven receptions and seven first downs or touchdowns.
Players of the Week
The team players of the week for the South Dakota game were
Alex Robinson on offense,
Kellen Dreyer on defense, and
Mike Bunton on special teams.
Marvin Byrd won the team's Living the D.R.E.A.M. award. That acronym stands for dedication, responsibility, enthusiasm, attitude, and motivation. The award goes to the player who exemplifies those qualities on the practice and game field, around campus, inside the dorm, and in the classroom.
Special Teams Returners
Lindenwood is averaging 16.3 yards per punt return and 27.3 yards per kickoff return.
Mike Bunton is the leading returner, averaging 15.2 yards on punt returns and 26.7 yards per kickoff return. The team has three punt return touchdowns, including two from Bunton.
Lions Kicking Game
James Neal is a perfect four-of-four on field goal tries this season, with a long of 44. He is 17-of-18 on PAT attempts and is second on the team with 29 points.
Morris Keseloff has punted 26 times this season for an average of 39.0 yards per punt. He has six inside the 20 yard line and a long of 52.
Anderson Oliva has taken over kickoff duties in recent games and is averaging 59.6 yards per kickoff.
Lindenwood is allowing opposing teams to average 20.9 yards on kickoff returns and 12.0 yards on punt returns.
Dillon Hawkins and
Jon McComb each have five kickoff return tackles, and
Blake Arnette has four punt return tackles.
1,000/1,000 Club
Denodus O'Bryant needs just 31 receiving yards to become the first player in Lindenwood history with 1,000 rushing and 1,000 receiving yards.
O'Bryant currently has 1,765 rushing yards and 969 receiving yards. The two-time All-American has 43 touchdowns in his career, including two this season.

Lindenwood is 1-1 this season against NCAA Division I teams, 1-1 versus NCAA Division II squads, and 1-0 versus NAIA programs.
About the Javelinas
Texas A&M-Kingsville enters this week with a 3-2 record. Victories have come against Central Washington, Minot State, and Texas A&M-Commerce. The losses have been against West Texas A&M and Midwestern State.
The team has used two quarterbacks in every game. Nate Poppell has 175.8 yards per game, seven passing touchdowns, and six interceptions. Daniel Ramirez has five touchdown throws and is averaging 100 yards a game. Running back Jonathan Woodson averages 161.40 all-purpose yards a game.
Robert Armstrong has caught 32 passes and seven touchdowns.
Jeremy Aguilar leads the team with 41 tackles and four tackles for loss. Rockeem Collins has two interceptions and a forced fumble.
Last Week
Texas A&M-Kingsville's defense allowed just one offensive touchdown in a 39-21 win over Texas A&M-Commerce. The Javelinas had 515 yards of offense and allowed just 229.
Daniel Ramirez threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns, and Robert Anderson caught 10 passes for 175 yards. Jeremy Aguilar had a team-high 10 tackles.
Head Coach Bo Atterberry
Bo Atterberry is in his fifth season at Texas A&M-Kingsville and he has a career mark of 32-19. He has led the Javelinas to two national tournament appearances and one conference championship.

NCAA II Transition
Lindenwood is in its second year of NCAA Division II candidacy in 2011-12. The school has dropped its NAIA membership and is an independent.
In 2012-13, Lindenwood hopes to enter a provisional year in the NCAA. The Lions will join the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association that season.
In 2013-14, assuming all expectations have been met, the NCAA will vote to make Lindenwood a full member.
