Wrestling Faces Tough Competition at Joe Parisi Open

The Lindenwood men's wrestling team wrapped up "The Joe Parisi Open" Presented by Tocco Law & Family Saturday night. There were over 200 wrestlers and 23 different programs represented with the highlight of the competition coming from the top wrestlers from the University of Iowa, the number one NCAA Division I program in the country right now.
 
The Lindenwood wrestlers started off the day against some of the toughest competition they will face all season. Blayne Shockely went 3-2 after working his way up in the consolation bracket in the 125 pound weight class. Four Lions competed in the 133 pound weight class with Omar Maknassi also going 3-2 with his victories coming from decisions.
 
The 149 pound weight class also had four Lions competing with a number of them finishing in the wrestleback. Corey Duncan was the lone Lion who finished with a 4-2 overall record in the respective weight class. Austin Garza made it to the quarterfinals in the 285 pound weight class only to fall to Ike Okenwa by decision, ending his run in the heavyweight division.
 
The Lindenwood wrestling team will travel to Maryville University to compete in the Maryville Open on Sunday, Dec. 4. Meet time is set to begin at 9 a.m.
