The Lindenwood Lions wrestling team competed at the Loras College Open Saturday in Dubuque, Iowa. Several Lindenwood wrestlers were divided among the Gold and Silver divisions of the tournament.
Three Lions participated in the Gold division with the closest coming from
Austin Garza whofinished in the quarter-finals in the 285 pound weight class. Garza fell to Janney Ross in a 2-1 decision.
Jacob Janes was another Lion who competed in the Gold division in the 141 weight class. Although he fell in a major division in the first round, Janes won two matches by decision in the consolation bracket before getting pinned by Mitch Johnson.
Josh Fiorito was the last third Lion who won the first round of the 149 pound by decision but lost to Justian Dixon in the following.
The majority of the Lions competed in the Silver division. Blake Shockley had much success in the consolation bracket after falling to Mitch Funk in the second round. Shockley had two more victories by a major decision and decision.
Chris Sanders also fell in the opening round but had his solo win again Derek Massey by pin fall. Other Lions who participated were
Christian Averill and
Simon Pineiro.
The Lindenwood wrestling team will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., to compete at the University of Central Missouri Open on Sunday, Nov. 13. The tournament will begin at 9 a.m.
