The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team fell to future conference rival Syracuse on Friday night in Syracuse, N.Y. The Orange defeated the Lady Lions by a 6-2 margin.
The two teams played a scoreless first period.
Taylor Fairchild kept Syracuse off the board with 14 saves in the first 20 minutes. Early in the second period, Syracuse took control of the game with three goals in a 2:10 span. Later in the period, the Orange scored two more goals and led 5-0 after two periods.
Lindenwood had just five shots on goal through two periods, but got its offense going in the third. The Lady Lions had 10 shots in the final period. Down 6-0, Lindenwood got on the board when
Samantha Moore scored with an assist from
Mara Post. In the final minute of the game, the Lady Lions scored another goal when
Allysson Arcibal had a goal with an assist from
Alison Wickenheiser.
Syracuse outshot Lindenwood 45-15 for the game and won 34 of 48 faceoffs. Only four penalties were called in the game and the Orange had the lone power-play goal.
Fairchild finished the game with 39 saves. Arcibal led the team with five shots, and Arcibal,
Erica Wynn,
Alyssa West, and Wickenheiser were plus-one for the contest.
Lindenwood and Syracuse will play game two of the series on Saturday afternoon.
