The Lindenwood wrestling team competed at the Maryville Kaufman-Brand Open at Maryville University on Sunday.
The meet featured nearly 250 wrestlers representing almost 20 different programs. Lindenwood had wrestlers in almost every weight class with several making their way through the wrestle back.
Derrick Weller had the best showing for the Lions as he made it to the semifinals of the competitive bracket by pin, decision and major decision. Weller also competed in the wrestle-back where he went on to win and take third in the 149 pound weight class.
Corey Duncan and
Cullen Halpin competed in the same weight class with Duncan making it to the quarter-finals and lost by decision.
Mason Ridenhour made it to the quarterfinals of the 157 pound weight class while
Michael Caldwell lost in the quarterfinals as well by a 9-4 decision in the 133 pound weight class.The University of Missouri won nine events with host school Maryville losing in the finals of the 149 and 197 pound weight class. Other schools included Missouri Valley, Purdue and Central Missouri.
The Lindenwood wrestling team will be back in action on Jan. 14 to play against Grand View College. The meet is set to start at 2 p.m.
