The Lindenwood men's wrestling team concluded its regular season on Saturday at the Missouri Valley Open. The Lions placed 14 wrestlers at the competition, including at least one in eight of the ten weight classes. Two Lindenwood wresters,
Justin Forrest and
Derrick Weller, won individual championships.
The 125 pound weight class was the most dominate for the Lions, led by Forrest who won the class with three victories. After a technical fall win in his first bout, Forrest won two straight decisions, including a 7-3 decision in the finals. Brandon Benvenoti and Andy McArthur also reached the semifinals. Benvenoti finished fourth and McArthur was fifth.
Weller won his title at 141 pounds. He won four decisions on the day, including three by one point or less. His teammate
Jacob Janes finished third at 141 pounds. Rounding out the team's strong showing at the lower weight classes, Daniel Osmer was runner-up at 133 pounds. He went 3-1 on the day with the lone setback coming by a 7-3 margin the finals.
Third-place finishes went to
Vince Hannon at 157 pounds and Steve Kemp at 174 pounds.
Donald Woods was fourth at 157 pounds and
Chris Chionuma was fourth at 174 pounds. A fifth-place showing came from Tim Navarette at 149 pounds. Sixth-place finishes came from
Daniel Breit at 149 pounds,
Clayton MacFarlane at 165 pounds, and
Austin Garza at 285 pounds.
Lindenwood is now off until it hosts the NAIA East Qualifier at Hyland Arena on Feb. 19.
