The Lindenwood men's tennis team won its home opener and first regular season match against Maryville University on Thursday, 9-0.
Lindenwood competed in both doubles and singles action, where the Lions dominated all the matches by a substantial amount.
Eric Tucoulou defeated Ryan Land 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles,
Rodrigo Traldi beat Michael Bianca 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 match and Gautheir Schilling downed Patrick Kroener 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3.
Other Lion victories came from
Mario Cal triumphed over Blake Peters in a shut out 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 match,
William Hale beat Ryan Williams 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5, while
Otavio Costa topped Troy Boehmer in the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-1.
Not only did the Lions dominate in singles competition, but doubles as well. In the No. 1 doubles match, Tucoulou and Traldi teamed up for an 8-1 victory over Land and Bianca, while Cal and Hale shut out Kroener and Peters 8-0 in the No. 2 match. Schilling and Costa were also 8-1 winners in the No. 3 doubles match against Maryville's Williams and Boehmer.
The Lindenwood men's and women's team will travel to compete in the Washington University in St. Louis Tournament Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park. Doubles begin Friday at 4 p.m. while the remainder of the tournament will start Saturday at 8 a.m. Teams participating include Lindenwood, McKendree University, St. Louis University, University of Missouri-St. Louis and Washington University in St. Louis.
