postgame quotes (video)

It was a night of firsts for the Lindenwood women's hockey team as it played its first official NCAA contest on Friday night against the number one team in the country, Wisconsin. The defending NCAA Division I champions defeated the Lady Lions by an 11-0 score.

Lindenwood held the Badgers off the scoreboard for the first 13 minutes of the game and trailed just 1-0 after one period. Wisconsin led 2-0 near the midway point of the second period when the floodgates opened. The Badgers scored six times in the final 12 minutes of that period to take an 8-0 lead after two periods. The Lady Lions regrouped between periods and played better in the third, but did allow three goals, including two power play goals.

Wisconsin kept the puck in Lindenwood's zone most of the night. The Badgers took 60 shots on goal, compared to just 11 for the Lady Lions.

Allysson Arcibal had Lindenwood's first NCAA shot early in the first period. Alison Wickenheiser led Lindenwood with three shots on the night. Kara Goodwin, Arical, and West all had a pair of shots.

Taylor Fairchild took the loss in goal but she prevented the score from being a lot worse. She made 49 saves in the contest. She was especially impressive in the first 20 minutes when she saved 15-of-16 attempts.

Lindenwood will conclude its series against Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon with a 2 p.m. game.
