Lady Lions Fall In Four To No. 7 Central Missouri

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball squad took a set away from the Central Missouri Jennies, but ultimately fell by a score of 3-1 on Saturday evening at Hyland Arena.

The Lady Lions got off to a strong start, holding Central Missouri to -.023 hitting clip while they posted a .176 clip of their own. Katie Weber led the team in the first set, producing four kills with no errors on nine attempts. Kayla Guyot contributed three kills of her own. Two serving rallies by setter Emma Brydels of three and four points helped propel the Lady Lions to a 25-15 set one victory.

The Jennies came back strong in the second, jumping out to a 7-1 before the Lady Lions neutralized the Jennies attack. The two squads would battle back-and-forth in the middle of the set, with the Central lead staying within five until the Jennies broke away at 17-12. The Jennies proceeded to take eight out of the last 11 to take set two 25-15.

After a quick lead by the Jennies, Lindenwood jumped back in and closed a five point deficit to take the lead at 12-11. The Lady Lions continued to keep the third set within reach, just could not quite hold on to the leads they were given. In the third set alone, the two teams had 10 ties and six lead changes. Central finished set three off with three straight to take it 25-22.

Central Missouri took control in the fourth set, building a five-point lead that continued to build throughout the set. A kill by Taylor Goodness sealed the fourth set victory for the Jennies, taking it 25-15.

Weber led the Lady Lions for the evening with 12 total kills. Kelsey Kennedy added eight while three other members of the Lady Lion squad contributed six. Emma Brydels had 30 assists for the evening and Kaila Schrimpf led all players on the floor with 33 digs.

Defensively, the Lady Lions held Central Missouri to just a .107 clip for the evening.

Lindenwood falls to 13-14 for the season and 3-10 in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will continue their homestand with a contest against Southwest Baptist on Tuesday evening. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
