The Lindenwood women's ice hockey won its first College Hockey America contest on Friday night at Lindenwood Ice Arena with a 5-1 win over Penn State.
Both teams scored a power-play goal in the first period, starting with a goal by Lindenwood's
Samantha Redick less than four minutes into the game. The Nittany Lions answered at the 13:28 mark and those were the only two goals in the first period.
Lindenwood took over the game after that point, outscoring Penn State 4-0 and outshooting the Nittany Lions 26-10 for the final two periods.
Kendra Broad scored the game-winning goal just 1:18 into the second period.
Allysson Arcibal added a power-play goal at the 13:37 mark of the second. The Lady Lions scored early again in the third period with another goal by Arcibal just 96 seconds into the period.
Alison Wickenheiser concluded the scoring with a goal in the final minutes.
The Lady Lions only committed three penalties and held the Nittany Lions to one-for-three on the power play. Lindenwood scored twice on the power play in six tries.
Wickenheiser finished the game with three points with a goal and two assists.
Lyndsay Kirkham also had two assists, and Broad had two points. Other assists came from
Chelsea Witwicke,
Brooke Peden, and
Jordyn Constance.
Nicole Hensley earned her first collegiate victory in goal after making 15 saves in the contest.
Lindenwood and Penn State will be in action again on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
