Lady Lions Fall To Penn State

Box Score The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team went to the penalty box one too many times on Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena. Penn State scored on its final power-play opportunity for a 3-2 victory over the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood hurt itself all game long with 10 penalties, including nine that gave Penn State a power play. The Lady Lions were able to kill off seven of the first eight power plays, but they couldn't get one more penalty kill as Penn State broke a 2-2 tie at the 14:10 mark while having a man advantage.

That goal was the first time Penn State led all series. Lindenwood scored early again when Chelsea Witwicke put one past the goalie less than three minutes into the game. The Nittany Lions had four power-play opportunities in the first period and scored once at the 17:39 mark to tie the game.

The game remained tied at one until Lindenwood scored a power-play goal at the 6:50 mark of the third period. Alyssa West scored that goal for the Lady Lions. Just 36 seconds later though, Penn State tied the game again with an even-strength goal. After the Nittany Lions went ahead, Lindenwood kept constant pressure on for the rest of the game, but none of its five shots on goal in that span could get past the Nittany Lions' goalie.

Witwicke and West both finished with one goal and one assist, and Wickenheiser had an assist to go along with a team-high six shots. Witwicke blocked eight shots in the contest to help Lindenwood have 16. She, along with Megan Cox, had a +1 plus/minus for the afternoon. Nicole Hensley made 30 saves but took the loss in goal.

Lindenwood falls to 1-11-0 overall and 1-3-0 in CHA play, while Penn State is now 5-8-1 overall and 1-6-1 in conference play. The Lady Lions are off next weekend and return home on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 for a series against St. Cloud State.
