Men's Basketball Rings in the New Year With Game Against Webster

• Tonight the Lindenwood Lions will be back home on the Hyland Arena floor when they take on the Webster Gorloks from the SLIAC. The game will be the third contest against a NCAA Division III school.

• The Lions are coming off a 63-48 win over Missouri S&T last week and have now won two games in a row.  

• The Gorloks enter tonight's game with a record of 4-5 overall and 2-0 in SLIAC play. Webster is coming off a 89-97 overtime loss to Elmhurst College.

• The Lions and Gorloks have met six times and Lindenwood leads the series 4-2.

• Tonight's game against Webster will be the third and final game against teams from the NCAA Division III. The Lions are 2-0 so far this season against Division III teams.

• This season the Lions are scoring 77.6 points a game. That total ranks fourth in the MIAA.

• This season's roster consists of five seniors and those seniors are leading the way. The group is scoring 71 percent of the team's average points per game.

Alex Bazzell has been the Lions go to scorer so far this season. He has led the team in scoring in six-of-nine games.

• Earlier this season, Bazzell scored his 1,000 career point as a Lindenwood Lion. He becomes the ninth Lion in program history to reach the milestone.

• Senior forward Richie Thompson has been dominating the glass this season. His average of 8.3 is tops in the MIAA.  

• Freshman guard Brandon Marquardt is making an early impact in his first season of college basketball. He is averaging 6.2 points and is 9-for-15 from behind the three point line. The freshman's 60 percent shooting from behind the arc is tops in the MIAA.

Brett Thompson is shooting 64 percent from the field which is the best in the MIAA.

• Over the past two seasons, the Lions have seen overtime numerous times. In 2011-12, the team played three overtime games. The team has already played in three over time games. The Lions have a 2-4 record in overtime since last season.

• In all but three games this season, the Lions have shot at least 30 free throws.

• When the Lions score at least 80 points the team is 3-0.

• Senior Cody Sorenson has been coming on strong lately from behind the three-point line. In the Lions last five games he has made at least two threes in each game. There has only been one contest this season that he hasn't made at least one three.

• When the Lions have outrebounded its opponents the team has won all but one game.

• Through nine games this season, the team's opponents are shooting just 39 percent from the field and 33 percent from behind the line.

• The Lions have shot 95 more free throws than their opponents. When the team shoots more free throws than its opponents, the team is 6-1.

• Lindenwood has outscored its opponents in both the first half and the second half this season. But the second half has been the Lions best. The team has outscored its opponents 378-279 in the final 20 minutes.

• If the Lions hold their opponents to 69 points or less the team is 5-0. If the opposition scores more than 69 the team is 1-3.

• The 0-2 start in conference play is the first time under Coach Soderberg that the team has lost its first two conference games.

• After playing a season without a conference the Lions will play this year in the MIAA. Lindenwood will play 18 conference games.

• The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his first four seasons, Lindenwood is 43-6 at home.  

• For the first time in school history the Lions have had three consecutive 20 win seasons. All three seasons have been under the watchful eye of Coach Soderberg.

• The Lions return seven of their top eight scorers from last season's squad. The only loss was Kramer Soderberg who averaged 17.9 points. 

• The Webster Gorloks come to the Hyland Arena to take on the Lions. The Gorloks come to town with a record of 4-5 overall and are 2-0 in conference play. Webster has lost its last three games in which two of them were on the road.

• As a team Webster is averaging 80.3 points a game on offense and is surrendering 78.7 points on the defensive side of the floor. The Gorloks are shooting 49 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the three-point line.

• Webster has three double digit scorers led by Roman Robinson who scores 14.8 points a game. Ahmad Mith is second on the team with 13.7. Cody Bradfisch scores 10.9 and Aaron Griffin scores 10.6 points a game and leads the team in rebounds with 9.2.

• Chris Bunch is the head coach of the Gorloks and is in his 11th season at the helm.
