Strong Goaltending Ends Lions Winning Streak

It has been said in hockey that a hot goaltender can stop a good offense.  That was clearly the case Friday night as the Lindenwood offense was stopped cold by Davenport goaltender Phil Graveline in a 3-1 loss at the Lindenwood Ice Arena, ending a modest three game winning streak for the Lions.

Despite outshooting the Panthers 34-25, Lindenwood could only light the lamp once, and that score came from Grant Gorczyca with only seconds left in the game.  After giving up a power play goal in the first period, the Lions stayed close until late in the third, but two goals from Davenport in the final six minutes sealed the game and the fate of Lindenwood.

Linus Ahgren was solid between the pipes for the Lions, stopping 22 of 25 shots, but Lindenwood went 0-4 on the power play.

With the loss, the Lions fell to 7-7-3 on the season.  They’ll try to bounce back Saturday afternoon in the final game of the series against the Panthers.  The puck drops at 4 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
