Men’s Ice Hockey Earns Split with Davenport

What the offense could not do on Friday night, it definitely did on Saturday afternoon as the Lions cruised to a 6-2 win to earn a split in a two-game non-conference series against Davenport at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.

After struggling to score in the first game, the Lions jumped on the Panthers early in the second game when Zach Glazer deflected a shot into the net from Peppi Sipila just four minutes into the first period.  Joe Bostic increased the lead to 2-0 when Eric Combs fed him for a goal at the 15:47 mark.

That lead would balloon to four in the second.  Darnell Dyck took a pass from Steve Brancheau and lit the lamp with 12:21 left and then Cam Chinnery scored just over two minutes later on an assist from Grant Gorczyca.  Davenport finally averted a shutout with a power play goal at the 15:33 mark in the period, but Peppi Sipila netted a score with 32 seconds left to give Lindenwood a 5-1 lead at the second intermission.

The Panthers tried to mount a comeback in the third and managed a goal with just under 13 minutes left in the game, but the Lions defense would not yield anything else.  With the Davenport net-minder pulled, Lindenwood freshman Taylor Wolfe scored his first career goal to give the Lions their final margin of victory.

Kirk Croswell stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced and the Lindenwood outshot the Panthers 38-25 to improve to 8-7-3 overall.

The Lions get a month off before returning to the ice in 2013 for a two-game Central States Collegiate Hockey League series against fifth ranked Ohio January 5-6.  The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night and at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon with both games at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
