The Lindenwood tennis teams competed against Johnson County Community College on Wednesday, March 14. Both teams lost to the Cavaliers by a 7-2 score with
Sarah Sharpe and
Rachel Bailey winning on the women's side and
Rodrigo Traldi and Thiago Mastroianni for the men.
Although both teams were swept in doubles competition, the tennis team was able to take a couple sets in the singles division. On the men's side, Traldi recorded a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 match while
Eric Tucoulou lost his contest 6-0, 6-6, 8-0 and
Gauthier Schilling fell 7-5, 6-3.
Mastroianni had the other Lions win by a 6-2, 6-2 score followed by a close contest from
Rahul Sadhwani who eventually lost 6-6, 6-2, 10-8.
Juan Vicenzio and
Otavio Costa also competed but lost in the No. 6 and No. 7 match.
Like the men's team, the Lady Lions recorded two victories in singles competition.
Adela Slovakova started in the No. 1 match but lose 6-1, 6-1 while
Mariona Pinol lost her contest by a 6-1, 6-2 score. It wasn't until the No. 4 match where Sharpe posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over her competition to get the first victory.
Shreeja Karki lost a close battle 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 before Bailey picked up the second win for the Lady Lions, 6-3, 6-0.
The men's team will travel to Missouri-St. Louis on Fri., March 16 while the Lady Lions will host the Tritons on Tues., March 20. Both matches are set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
