Lindenwood women's ice hockey head coach Vince O'Mara announced his 2012-13 schedule on Friday. After playing just four home games last season, the Lady Lions will have 18 this upcoming year, including a two-game series against Wisconsin, the 2012 NCAA runner-up.
The Wisconsin Badgers will come to town on Oct. 5-6. Wisconsin has appeared in six of the last seven NCAA Championship games, and has won four national titles in that span. Lindenwood will hosts two other teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament. The Lady Lions play their first conference games on Nov. 2-3 against Mercyhurst, and they will host North Dakota on Jan. 4-5.
Lindenwood will be playing its first season in College Hockey America (CHA) in 2012-13 and will have four games against every conference opponent. The other members of the conference are Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Penn State, RIT, and Syracuse. Penn State and RIT will also be playing their inaugural seasons in the CHA next year.
The top two teams in the conference standings will receive a bye for the first round of the CHA Tournament. The remaining teams will play a best-of-three series on March 1-3, with the third seed hosting the sixth seed and the fourth seed hosting the fifth seed. The CHA semifinals will then take place on March 8 at the home of the highest seed, and the championship game will take place the next day.
Other highlights of next year's schedule include opening the season on the road at Ohio State on Sept. 28-29, and having a New Year's Day game at the Lindenwood Ice Arena against Minnesota State, Mankato.
The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team will be in its second year of playing a NCAA schedule next season. The Lady Lions went 8-21-0 in their inaugural season, including six straight wins to end the year.
