Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team moved back to .500 on the season with a 3-0 sweep over regional rival Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday night at Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions won by scores of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-21.
Lindenwood's
Allison Waldvogel played a key role in Lindenwood winning the first two sets with her serving. In the opening game, Lindenwood jumped out to a 4-0 lead with Waldvogel serving during all four points. The closest the Tritons would get after that was at 20-18, but the Lady Lions closed out the set with a 5-2 run. In the second set, Missouri-St. Louis led for the majority of the game. Lindenwood trailed 19-16 when it scored a point to get the serving rotation to Waldvogel. She proceeded to help the team score six more consecutive points, including back-to-back aces to put Lindenwood ahead for good.
The final set of the night turned into an offensive shootout, with Missouri-St. Louis hitting .250 and Lindenwood hitting .432. The two teams were tied at 20 when the Lady Lions finished the match with a 5-1 run.
Kelsey Kennedy,
Katie Weber, and
Erin Anselman all had kills in that final run, and Lindenwood benefitted from two Tritons' errors.
Lindenwood finished the match with a .307 hitting percentage, its highest mark of the season. The Lady Lions had a balanced effort offensively with five players recording seven or more kills.
Kelsey Kennedy led the team with 11, followed by
Kayla Guyot with nine, Nicole Hallum with eight, and Weber and Anselman with seven. Guyot, Hallum, and Weber all hit over .300 for the match.
Emma Brydels directed the offense and finished with 36 assists.
Defensively, the Lady Lions averaged over 20 digs a set and had six blocks.
Kaila Schrimpf had 22 of Lindenwood's 61 digs, and Waldvogel was in double-figures with 11. Nine of the ten players who saw action recorded at least one dig. Weber, Guyot, and Anselman all had a team-high three blocks.
Lindenwood finished with four service aces, including three by Waldvogel in the first two sets. Waldvogel served 18 times in the match and Missouri-St. Louis was able to sideout just 33 percent of the time against her serves.
Lindenwood goes to 7-7 on the season with the victory. The Lady Lions will return to conference action again this Saturday when they take on Missouri Southern at Hyland Arena at 7 p.m.
