Women's Hockey Closes Out Season Series With No. 6 Mercyhurst

Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team put together a much better performance on Saturday against No. 6 Mercyhurst. The Lady Lions were tied with the Lakers midway through the contest before Mercyhurst pulled away for a 5-1 victory.

Neither team scored in the first period as Lindenwood's Taylor Fairchild stopped 14 shots. Mercyhurst finally got the game's first goal early in the second period with a power-play goal. The Lady Lions answered at the 10:40 mark with a goal by Erica Wynn. Wynn's tally was her first at the NCAA level and it came off an assist from Jocelyn Slattery.

Mercyhurst scored the game-winning goal at the 13:13 mark of the second period and added another later in the period. The Lakers then scored twice more in the final period for a four-goal victory.

Lindenwood's defense put together one of its best showings against a nationally-ranked team. The five goals allowed were the least given up against a ranked team, and the 43 shots was the lowest total allowed in eight games all-time against Mercyhurst.

Fairchild finished the game with 38 saves and helped hold the Lakers to just one-for-six on the power play. Lindenwood had 25 shots, including three each from Alyssa West, Kendra Broad, and Katie Erickson.

Lindenwood continues CHA play next weekend with a two-game home series against RIT. The series is the program's “Paint the Rink Pink” promotion to raise money for breast cancer research.
