Women's Hockey Shows Improvement Against Wisconsin

Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team showed huge improvement from the last time it played in Madison, Wis., but the Lady Lions still fell on Friday night to the No. 2 Badgers by a 5-1 score.

The Badgers took an early 1-0 lead in the game but Lindenwood tied the game later in the period. Lyndsay Kirkham scored her first goal of the season with an unassisted goal at the 17:01 mark. Wisconsin quickly retook the lead though just 29 seconds later and 2-1 was the score after 20 minutes.

Wisconsin had a huge shot advantage in the second period with 22, compared to five for the Lady Lions. Lindenwood's Nicole Hensley kept the game close with 20 saves although Wisconsin did add two more goals.

Lindenwood's defense had its best period in the third, allowing just 13 shots. The Badgers scored at the 2:20 mark which turned out to be the final goal of the game.

Wisconsin finished the game with 53 shots and Hensley stopped 48 of them. The game did not have many penalties, as Lindenwood was 0-for-two on the power play and Wisconsin was two-for-three.

Lindenwood and Wisconsin will play game two of the series on Saturday afternoon in Madison.
