Women's Hockey Has Another Good Effort Against No. 2 Wisconsin

Box Score The Lady Lions hockey team put together another good effort on Saturday against the No. 2 team in NCAA Division I. Lindenwood trailed just 2-1 after two periods before falling 4-1 to Wisconsin in Madison.

The Badgers scored twice in the first period to take a 2-0 lead, but Lindenwood would keep Wisconsin off the scoreboard for the next 37 minutes. During that time, the Lady Lions got within one goal when Caitlyn Post scored off an assist from Lyndsay Kirkham.

With the game being just a one-goal contest in the third period, both teams played more defensively. Wisconsin finally broke through with a power-play goal at the 12:29 mark, and then sealed the contest with another goal with less than three minutes remaining.

Wisconsin finished the game with 43 shots, compared to 23 for Lindenwood. Both teams had five power plays. The Lady Lions did not score a power-play goal, while Wisconsin had two power-play goals. The three-goal loss was the best performance for Lindenwood against a nationally-ranked team.

Nicole Hensley made 39 saves in net for Lindenwood. Rachel Weich, Carrie Atkinson, and Jocelyn Slattery all had a +1 plus/minus for the contest. Post had a team-high five shots and she scored her first goal of the season.

Lindenwood is now 0-9-1 on the season, with every game being a non-conference contest against the WCHA. The Lady Lions begin conference play in two weeks at home against RIT.
