Women's Hockey Drops First Road Contest

Box Score The Lady Lions hockey squad fell to nationally-ranked North Dakota on Friday evening in Grand Forks, N.D. by a 5-1 margin.

The game was filled with penalties and North Dakota won the special teams battle. Lindenwood had eight power-play opportunities but could not convert any of them. North Dakota had seven chances with a man-advantage and scored three of its goals on the power play.

North Dakota finished the game with a 51-16 advantage on shots, but it still could not pull away until the final period. A large reason was the play of Nicole Hensley who made 46 saves in the game.

After trailing 2-0 after one period, Lindenwood scored 5:13 into the second period to get within one goal. Kendra Broad scored her first goal of the season with an unassisted score.

The home team quickly got that goal back just over a minute later but the Lady Lions trailed just 3-1 after two periods. In the third period, Lindenwood had its best period by allowing 14 shots, but North Dakota scored two more times in the first half of the period to put the Lady Lions away.

Lindenwood falls to 0-2-1 on the season with the loss. The two teams meet again tomorrow night in Grand Forks.
