Box Score The Lindenwood football team suffered its worst loss since 2002 on Saturday afternoon with a 56-6 setback at Nebraska-Kearney.
Almost nothing went right for Lindenwood on its longest road trip of the season, but the biggest problem was turnovers. The Lions turned the ball over seven times and the Lopers converted five of those turnovers into touchdowns. Lindenwood's defense, meanwhile, did not force a turnover in the game.
Three of the Lopers' touchdowns off turnovers came in the first half, including two in the final two minutes. That helped Nebraska-Kearney take a 35-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lopers led 42-0 before Lindenwood had its only scoring drive of the game.
Ben Gomez complete four of six passes on the drive which ended with a 16-yard strike to
Sam Sealer.
Nebraska-Kearney answered with a touchdown on its next drive and added one more touchdown late in the game for the 50-point win.
The Lopers outgained Lindenwood 431-195, including having 383 more rushing yards than the Lions. Nebraska-Kearney finished with 365 yards on the ground, including averaging over five yards a carry, while Lindenwood had negative rushing yards. The Lopers also had nearly 42 minutes of time of possession, and converted six third-downs and four fourth-downs.
Gomez saw a little over two quarters of action at quarterback and threw for 133 yards and the one touchdown.Â
Alex Robinson had five catches for 60 yards and
Marvin Byrd rushed eight times for 52 yards.
Defensively,
Roderick Ryles had a team-high 10 tackles, including a tackle for loss.
Cortland Dunlap and
Clint Koons both had nine tackles.
