Women's Hockey Loses In Final Minute

Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team gave up a goal with just 47 seconds remaining on Friday night in Pittsburgh, Pa. That goal was the difference in a closely-fought battle that Robert Morris won by a 3-2 margin.

Robert Morris outshot Lindenwood by just a 28-24 margin. The Lady Lions were one-for-five on the power play and they held the Colonials scoreless on four power-play opportunities.

The Colonials scored first in the match with a goal less than three minutes into the second period. Lindenwood answered though just over three minutes later with a power-play goal. Both teams also scored early in the third period and the game appeared headed for overtime before Robert Morris' late goal.

Carrie Atkinson had the power-play goal for Lindenwood, the first goal this season by a Lady Lions freshman. Jocelyn Slattery had the other goal and Lyndsay Kirkham assisted on both goals. Alyssa West and Kendra Broad also had assists. Slattery, Kirkham, and Chelsea Witwicke were all +1 for the game.

Defensively, Nicole Hensley finished with 25 saves in goal. Megan Cox, Saville Pickar, and Witwicke each had a team-high three blocked shots.

Lindenwood and Robert Morris will play game two of its series tomorrow after at 3 p.m. (EST).
