Wrestlers Compete at Harold Nichols Cyclone Open on Saturday

The Lindenwood wrestling team competed at the Harold Nichols Cyclone Open hosted by Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa on Saturday.

Matt Katusin had the best performance from any of the Lion wrestlers at the meet, which included several big-name NCAA Division I schools like Minnesota, Nebraska, West Virginia, and Missouri. The 133 pounder placed fourth in that weight class earning a big win over SDSU and pinned Eric Montoya of Nebraska in the 1st period.

John McArdle placed sixth in his 174 wight class. He won his first two matches by a 13-6 decision and a 15-3 major decision. McArdle went 4-2 on the day.

Derrick Weller won his first two matches in the 149 weight class bracket in a 7-1 decision and a pin fall respectively. After suffering a loss, Derrick moved to the consolation bracket where he fell in the quarterfinals.

Marco Tamayo lost his first match in the 125 weight class which sent him to the consolation bracket. Tamayo scored a 5-3 decision and a 12-4 major decision before losing his last match.

Colton Orlando had a 17-3 major decision win in the 141 consolation bracket.

The Lions are in action on Saturday, November 23rd when they host the third annual Joe Parisi Open in St. Charles, Mo. starting at 9 a.m.
