The Lindenwood University Roller Hockey gold and black teams had a successful weekend with a combined 4-1 record.
The gold team began with a 7-0 win against the Bethel University (Tenn.) B team at Midwest Sport Hockey in Ballwin, Mo. on November 15. Joshua Holmes netted four goals while Brennan Sowa recorded the shutout with nine saves. The Lions put 52 shots on Wildcats netminder Noah Sinz.
The rest of the games for both teams were played at The Wheel in Wright City, Mo. LU Gold went to overtime against Kansas State on Sunday, November 17 and came out with the 4-3 victory with a power play goal 20 seconds into the extra frame by Thompson Teague. Goaltender Charles Robinson made 16 saves for the Lions.
The black team played three games on Sunday. The team defeated the Bethel B team 6-1 in the opening game of the morning. Dylan Palmer-Givan netted two goals and had an assist, Alex Griffith scored a goal and recorded an assist, and Tim Hartupee stopped 14 of 15 shots to secure the win.
Up next, LU black faced UMSL's Division I team. The Lions lost for the first time this season 9-8 after the experienced Tritons team netted two unanswered goals late in the third period. Jason Novak led the Lions with four goals and an assist.
The Lions black squad finished the day with an 11-3 win over St. Charles Community College. Griffith scored four goals and had two assists, Brendan Johnson netted a goal and added three assists, and Zach Weaver scored twice.
The Lions black team is off next weekend while the gold team travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the Rocky Mountain Inter-regional on November 23-24. The Gold team will have a tough test at the event with four games against Division I opponents.
