Lions Fall to Alaska-Anchorage in Season Opener

Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team started off its 2013-14 season with a 74-57 loss to the Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves in Anaheim, Calif.  at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic.

The game started off slow for both teams. The teams combined for four-of-14 shooting in the first seven minutes of the game. Lindenwood turned the ball over eight times in the span. After the 10 minute mark, Alaska-Anchorage started to find its shooting touch.

The Seawolves made their next six of nine shots to extend its lead to six. Lindenwood then cut the deficit to three after a Michael Boos three pointer but that was as close as the Lions would get all night. Alaska-Anchorage closed the first half with a 13-4 run to lead by 12 at the break.

Alaska-Anchorage kept the momentum it gained at the end of the first half and jumped out to a 17-5 run and extended its lead to 26. Lindenwood was able to cut the lead to under 20 twice but the Seawolves were just too much.

Sam Mader led Lindenwood with 15 points in his first game as a Lion. Marquardt chipped in with 13 points and Michael Boos had 11. Garrett Reeg led team with 10 rebounds.

The Lions shot just 36 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the three-point line. Alaska-Anchorage shot 48 percent from the field and 38 percent from three. Lindenwood outrebounded the Seawolves 37-29 but turned the ball over 19 times.

The Lions will have not much time to think about the loss as the team will get right back at it Saturday morning against No. 2 Seattle Pacific.
