Box Score postgame press conference
The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with its first CHA series sweep. Two-time team captain
Brett Lobreau scored the game-winning goal in her final regular season game at the Lindenwood Ice Arena to lead Lindenwood to a 4-2 win over Robert Morris.
The first period saw lots of scoring as both teams scored two even-strength goals. The Lady Lions struck less than two minutes into the game when
Kendra Broad put one in the net. After Robert Morris tied the game,
Caitlyn Post scored at the 14:18 mark. The Colonials added one more goal in that period and the scored remained 2-2 until the third period.
Midway through the third, Lobreau put Lindenwood ahead with her first goal of the season. That score came at the 11:38 mark. Robert Morris put 26 shots on goal in the final period, but
Nicole Hensley stopped every one. The Lady Lions were able to seal the victory when
Alison Wickenheiser scored an empty net goal with 49.9 seconds left.
The game saw just seven penalties and neither team was able to score a power-play goal. Robert Morris had 51 shots in the contest, compared to 22 for Lindenwood. Hensley was the difference though as she made 49 saves in the game, compared to just 18 for her Robert Morris counterpart.
Nine Lindenwood players finished with a positive plus/minus, including
Chelsea Witwicke with a +4. Post,
Megan Cox,
Kendra Broad,
Lyndsay Kirkham,
Katie Erickson,
Alyssa West, and Wickenheiser were all a +2. Broad and Wickenheiser each had an assist to go along with their goals, and Kirkham had two assists. Other assists were collected by Witwicke and West.
Lindenwood moves into a tie with Robert Morris for fourth place in the CHA with 15 points. The Lady Lions end the regular season next week with a two-game series at Syracuse.
