Men's Basketball Starts Final Road Swing of Season at Truman


• The Lindenwood Lions will play their final three games of the season on the road starting Thursday night in Kirksville, Mo. against the Truman Bulldogs.

• Lindenwood is coming off a 87-76 win over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. The Lions have a record of 6-4 away from St. Charles.
 
• Truman enters the game against the Lions with a record of 8-14 overall and 5-9 in MIAA play. The Bulldogs last contest was a win over Southwest Baptist.   

• The Lions and the Bulldogs have met three times and Truman leads the series 2-1.

Lindenwood Notes

• The Lions are third in the MIAA in field goal percentage with a mark of .470. There is three individuals in the top 10. Brett Thompson is third at 60 percent, Richie Thompson is sixth at 55 percent, and Cody Sorenson is ninth at 53 percent.

• Not only are the Lions third in the conference in field goal percentage they are tops in three other categories. The team is first in scoring (78.2), rebounding margin (+6.8), and defensive rebounds a game (27.3).

• This season's roster consists of five seniors and those seniors are leading the way. The group is scoring 68 percent of the team's average points per game.

• The Lions have made at least five threes in every game but three this season. The team has made double digit threes four games this season. The season high in made threes was 12 against William Woods.

• When the Lions score at least 80 points the team is 9-0 and when the team scores over 70 the team is 12-4.

Alex Bazzell has been the Lions go to scorer so far this season. He has led the team in scoring in 13-of-23 games.

• Senior Cody Sorenson has been strong from behind the three-point line. He has made at least two threes in every game but eight. His high of the season was against Central Oklahoma when he made five.

• Lindenwood has shot 216 more free throws than its opponents. When the team shoots more free throws than its opponents, the team is 15-4. The Lions have made at least 10 free throws in every game but one. 

• The Lions have outrebounded its opponents this season by a 894-737 margin. When the team grabs more rebounds it is 15-2.

Alex Bazzell has been a frequent visitor to the free-throw line. He has 238 attempts and has made 201. His makes and attempts are the most in all Division I and II.

• Over the past two seasons, the Lions have seen overtime numerous times. In 2011-12, the team played three overtime games. The team has already played in three over time games. The Lions have a 2-4 record in overtime since last season.

• Lindenwood has outscored its opponents in the second half in all but seven games.

• Lindenwood has outscored its opponents in both the first half and the second half this season. But the second half has been the Lions best. The team has outscored its opponents 956-827 in the final 20 minutes.

• If the Lions hold their opponents to 69 points or less the team is 11-2. If the opposition scores more than 70 the team is 6-4.

• Earlier this season, Bazzell scored his 1,000 career point as a Lindenwood Lion. He becomes the ninth Lion in program history to reach the milestone.

• The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his first four seasons, Lindenwood is 50-8 at home.  

• For the first time in school history the Lions have had three consecutive 20 win seasons. All three seasons have been under the watchful eye of Coach Soderberg.

Truman Notes

• The Truman Bulldogs welcome the Lions to Kirksville for the final MIAA home game for Truman. The Bulldogs enter the game with a record of 8-14 overall and 5-9 in conference play. Truman has lost its last five-of-seven games.

• As a team Truman is averaging 71.0 points a game on offense and is surrendering 69.1 points on the defensive side of the floor. The Bulldogs are shooting 44 percent from the field and 36 percent from behind the three-point line.

• Truman has three double digit scorers led by Mike Carlson who scores 16.6 points a game. The junior is also leading the team in rebounds with 6.5. Tom Norton is second on the team with 13.3 and Seth Jackson is chipping in with 11.4.

• Matt Woodley is the head coach of the Bulldogs and is in his 2nd season at the helm.

Last Meeting

The Lindenwood men's basketball team led for all but 2:30 in the team's first ever MIAA conference win. The Lions beat the Truman Bulldogs 96-82. Alex Bazzell recorded his first double-double of the season with a game-high 22 points and 11 assists. The senior was four-of-seven from the field and a perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line. Richie Thompson and Brett Thompson both chipped in with 18 points. The Lions shot 56 percent from the field, 50 percent from the three-point line, and 84 percent from the charity stripe. Lindenwood dominated the glass, outrebounding the Bulldogs 41-22 including a 13-6 margin on the offensive boards.
