Box Score The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team scored a late goal to salvage a 3-3 tie with Penn State on Saturday afternoon in University Park, Pa.
The Lady Lions never led in the game but was able to bounce back from three separate deficits. Lindenwood outshot Penn State by a 47-28 margin but it went just one-for-seven on the power play.
Penn State opened the scoring at the 9:08 mark of the first period when Shannon Yoxheimer scored an unassisted goal. Lindenwood responded just over three minutes later when the Triple-A line connected for a power-play score.
Alison Wickenheiser scored the goal with assists from
Allysson Arcibal and
Alyssa West.
The Nittany Lions took the lead again two minutes into the second period and held that lead for most of the second period. Lindenwood finally tied the game at two when
Lyndsay Kirkham scored at the 18:19 mark, with assists from
Katie Erickson and
Rachel Weich.
Lindenwood was able to kill the first three Penn State power plays, but couldn't kill the fourth and final one. The Nittany Lions took a 3-2 lead while on the power play at the five-minute mark of the third period. Late in the period, Lindenwood pulled its goalie at the 18:39 mark and the extra attacker worked 39 seconds later when Arcibal scored unassisted.
Neither team was able to score in the overtime period as Lindenwood took four shots compared to three for Penn State.
Lindenwood ends its season series with Penn State with a 2-1-1 advantage. The Lady Lions also finished above .500 with a 3-2-3 mark against the new teams in the CHA. The Lady Lions return home for the final time in the regular season this upcoming week with a series against Robert Morris.
