Box Score The Lindenwood football team forced six Missouri S&T turnovers and rolled to a 27-10 win on Saturday night at Hunter Stadium. The Lions jumped out to an early 17-0 lead in the first quarter and then finished the contest with 10 points in the final quarter.
The first quarter was all Lindenwood. The Lions held the Miners to just 72 total yards compared to the home team's 148.
The Lions marched down the field in their opening drive but were forced to kick a field goal and led 3-0 just five minutes into the game. On the Miners' first possession, Lindenwood's All-American
Pierre Desir picked off his second pass of the season and set up the Lions offense.
Just six plays later,
Dillon Miller throw a 36-yard touchdown pass to
Jaron Alexander which gave the home team a 14-0 lead. On the next Miners' possession the visitors were forced to punt again after just four plays. But Miller would give the ball right back to Miners with an interception.
After the interception, the Lindenwood defense picked up the offense.
D'Andre Green picked off Miners' quarterback Reed Brown and scampered 17 yards for the score. Missouri S&T got on the scoreboard for the first time with just 14 second left in the half.
The third quarter saw both offenses struggle and the Miners 33-yard field goal was the only points of the quarter. The field goal did get Missouri S&T within just seven points and a whole quarter to play.
Both teams traded three and outs to start the fourth quarter before then Lindenwood took control of the game with an eight-play drive which resulted in a three-yard touchdown run by
Marvin Byrd.
James Neal ended the scoring with a 30-yard field goal after the Lions picked off their fifth and final pass of the night.
Miller was 21-for-40 for 249 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Byrd led the Lions on the ground with 23 rushes for 79 yards and a score. Alexander led the team in receiving with 88 yards on five catches, while
Alex Robinson and Jordan Gator each chipped in with 47 receiving yards each.
A.J. Chappelle and
Clint Koons led the Lindenwood defense with 11 tackles each. Desir picked off one pass, had one tackle for a loss, and recorded two pass breakups.
Wesley Thomas also picked off a career-high two interceptions.
Game Notes: Lindenwood improves to 3-1 on the season and 2-0 at Hunter Stadium … Missouri S&T falls to 1-3 on the year … the game was Lindenwood's only non-conference game of the regular season … the five interceptions tied for the second-most in school history for a single game.
