Gymnastics Opens 2014 Season At No. 14 Minnesota

The Lindenwood women's gymnastics team opened its second season of competition on Saturday evening in Minneapolis, Minn. The Lady Lions finished third at the event behind two NCAA Division I programs, No. 14 Minnesota and Air Force.

Lindenwood recorded a team score of 185.525. Minnesota won the competition with a mark of 194.425, while Air Force finished with a 190.625.

Lindenwood recorded a score of 47.700 on the floor exercise, its best event of the night. Rachel Zabawa led the team with a 9.700, but it was a pair of newcomers that boosted the team score. Hannah Rector and Ajiea Hargrave both recorded a 9.650 for the second-highest marks on the team.

The Lady Lions also recorded a team score over 47 on the vault with a 47.550. Zabawa and Emily Turik each had a team-high 9.6000. For Turik, that was a new career-high at Lindenwood on that event.

On the beam, the team's first event of the season, Emily Turik and Rachel Zabawa tied for the team-high with a 9.450. The Lady Lions finished with a team score of 46.300. Turik also led the team on the uneven bars with a score of 9.60. Lindenwood struggled as a team in that event, scoring a 44.175.

Turik had an all-around score of 37.775. She finished third in the all-around out of five gymnasts who performed in every event.

Lindenwood has its home opener next Friday at 6 p.m. at Hyland Arena. The Lady Lions will host three other opponents in Seattle Pacific, UW-Oshkosh, and UW-La Crosse.
