Women's Gymnastics Picks Up Another Historic Win

For the second straight week, the Lindenwood gymnastics team picked up a historic win. The Lady Lions won their first dual meet in program history on Friday with a victory over conference rival Illinois State.

The victory was a true team effort for Lindenwood. The Redbirds swept all four individual titles and the all-around title. As a team, though, the Lady Lions won three of the four events. Lindenwood recorded over 190 for the second straight competition with a 190.175. Illinois State finished with a team mark of 189.950.

Lindenwood dug itself into a hole after one event after recording a 46.875 on the bars. Emily Turik led Lindenwood with a 9.725, her highest score of the season in that event.

The Lady Lions started their comeback on the vault with its highest team score of the night of 48.125. All five Lindenwood gymnasts had at least a 9.575, led by Turik with a 9.675. After the first two rotations, Lindenwood trailed by 0.950.

Lindenwood was on the floor for its third rotation and it recorded a mark of 47.625. Turik led the team for the third straight apparatus with a 9.675.

Illinois State had its lowest score on the third rotation which let the Lady Lions enter the final rotation with a narrow 0.025 lead. They sealed the victory with a 47.550 team score on the beam. Valeri Ingui and Alicia Floyd both recorded team-highs of 9.700. Rachel Zabawa then clinched the win with a 9.200 on the team's final routine of the evening.

Lindenwood will return to action in just two days when it takes on another conference foe, Illinois-Chicago, on Sunday.
