Women's Gymnastics Falls To Defending Conference Champions

The Lindenwood women's gymnastics team stayed with Illinois-Chicago through three rotations on Sunday, but the defending Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) Champions pulled away in the fourth rotation for a 192.225-189.700 dual win over the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood trailed but just 0.050 after the third rotation, but couldn't get any closer. The Lady Lions ended on the beam and had their lowest score of the day with a 46.275. Illinois-Chicago finished on the floor and recorded a 48.750 to seal the victory.

As a team, Lindenwood's top performance came on the vault where it set a school record with a 48.250. Five of the team's six vaulters recorded a score of 9.500 or better, and the Lady Lions outscored the Flames in that event.

The Lady Lions recorded over 47 in their other two events. Lindenwood had a 47.750 on the bars and a 47.425 on the floor.

Individually, Rachel Zabawa had a good afternoon by tying or setting two school records. She recorded a new school mark in the vault with a 9.825, and tied the school record on the floor with a 9.825. Zabawa had the highest score at the meet in the vault, winning by 0.050.

Emily Turik finished with an all-around score of 38.150, which marks the sixth time in her Lindenwood career that she surpassed 38.000. Her highlights included a 9.725 on the bars and a 9.700 on the vault.

Other notables on the day were Courtney Heise recording a 9.800 on the bars, Ajiea Hargrave having a 9.625 on the vault and a 9.700 on the floor, Hannah Rector recording a team-high 9.675 on the beam, and Valeri Ingui having a 9.600 on the vault.

Lindenwood travels to another MIC opponent next Friday evening with a trip to Cape Girardeau to take on Southeast Missouri and UW-Whitewater.
