The Lindenwood women's hockey team gave up four goals in the final period of Friday night's home contest and lost to No. 8 Robert Morris by a 6-1 score.
The Lady Lions had several chances to keep the game close against the nationally-ranked Colonials. Down just 1-0 midway through the second period, the Lady Lions had a five-on-three power play but couldn't convert several good chances. Just 23 seconds after the second power play ended, Robert Morris scored to take a 2-0 lead into the final period.
The Colonials scored just 1:29 into the third period, but Lindenwood got its crowd going at the 4:31 mark when
Alyssa West scored off an assist from
Brooke Peden. Robert Morris quickly killed that momentum though as it turned the game into a rout with three goals in a 1:14 span.
Robert Morris finished the game with a 39-21 edge in shots, including a 20-6 margin in the final period. The Colonials were one-for-four on the power play, while Lindenwood was scoreless in three chances.
Lindenwood has one more chance to upset Robert Morris in the regular season. The two teams play again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
