The Lindenwood Lady Lions soccer team won a thrilling double overtime game against the Northeastern State Riverhawks on Friday night in Tahleqhua, Okla. The Lady Lions tied the game up in the 78
th minute then won it in double overtime 3-2.
The Riverhawks got the scoring going early in the 29
th minute when Anastasia Robinson scored on a header. Northeastern State would hold onto the 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Just eight minutes into the second half,
Molly White converted on a perfect pass from
Danielle Torry to tie the score at one. The Riverhawks came right back eight minutes later to retake the lead. But the visitors did not go away.
Lindenwood's leading scorer,
Becky Roberts, scored her fifth goal of the season to tie the game up with just over 12 minutes to play in regulation. Neither team would break the tie and the game headed in overtime.
The first overtime came and went with neither team being able to score the game winner. As the second overtime started, the Lady Lions finally broke through and
Kristin Brewer scored to give Lindenwood the win.
The overtime win improved the Lady Lions to 5-5-3 overall and 4-3-2 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will close out its road trip through Oklahoma with a game against Central Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon.
