Streak Extends to Three Straight

After snatching a win from Iowa State in the final two seconds of regulation on Friday night, the Lions earned a 2-1 overtime victory over the Cyclones Saturday night in Ames, Iowa to extend their winning streak to three straight games.

Defense was the rule for most of the first two periods, with neither team finding the back of the net until Iowa State broke through with just 17 seconds left in the second.  Needing a come-from-behind effort, Lindenwood delivered the tying score when Riley Spraggs and Peppi Sipila set up Jake Fairchild for a power play goal with 8:55 remaining in the third period.  The score remained tied at one for the rest of the frame and the game went into overtime.  After heroics from a trio of Lions on Friday night, a different three-some delivered on Saturday night when Tobias Nasgarde netted the game-winner with help from Mike Lozano and Brandon Rumble with 2:18 left in the overtime period.

Lindenwood goaltender Cody Karpinski stopped 35 out of 36 shots to earn his first win of the season and the Lions went 1-6 on the power play while holding Iowa State scoreless in six chances on Saturday and three chances on Friday.

Lindenwood improved to 3-4-1 overall and picked up two important wins to start play in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) with a 2-0 record.  The Lions return home for another CSCHL match-up against Robert Morris (Ill.) October 24-25.  The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday night and 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
