For the second consecutive time Lindenwood beat conference opponent Newberry, this time by a 4-2 margin. Lindenwood is now 3-0 at home.
Lindenwood kicked off their weekend home games with a victory over Newberry. Scoring the first goal of the weekend for the Lady Lions was
Chloe Bell on an assist from
Ashton Lichvar.
Alison Frederick followed with a goal of her own, her first of the season. Lindenwood hoped to go into halftime with a 2-0 lead, but Newberry snuck one in before halftime to cut Lindenwood's lead in half.
To start the second-half, team leading scorer
Greta Banholzer got the ball on a breakaway and easily found the back of the net to give Lindenwood a 3-1 lead. Sophomore
Carly Brengosz scored her second goal of the season from Lichvar who recorded her second assist of the game to give Lindenwood a 4-1 lead. Newberry scored one more goal, but Lindenwood didn't allow another giving Lindenwood the 4-2 victory.
Victoria Gil had five saves, earning her eighth win on of the season. Lindenwood won the penalty corner battle 15-7. The Lady Lions also doubled Newberry in shots on goal, 15-7. Banholzer came out of the game with a knee injury late in the second-half.
The win improves Lindenwood's record to 8-5 and 3-2 in ECAC play. Coming up next for Lindenwood is another home game against Mercy College on Sunday, October 26th.
