Winning Streak Stopped by Oklahoma

The eight game winning streak for the Lions that was started with a victory against Oklahoma almost a full month ago was stopped by that same Sooners team Sunday afternoon in a 3-2 loss at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.

Oklahoma was able to keep the pressure on the Lions, outshooting them 35-21 for the game.  Lindenwood fell behind at the 15:18 mark of the first period and was never able to catch up.  Oklahoma scored a second time with just over a minute remaining in the second and took a 2-0 lead into the final period.  Lindenwood cut the lead in half with 7:23 remaining when Riley Spraggs and Brandon Rumble set up Daniel Rosse for a score, but the Sooners countered with a goal at 16:43 to regain their two goal advantage.  Kevin Walters and Stephen Bopp assisted Tobias Nasgarde on a power play goal for the Lions with 71 seconds left, but that was as close as Lindenwood could get before time ran out.

Cody Karpinski stopped 32 of the 35 shots he faced between the pipes to take the hard-luck loss for the Lions.  Lindenwood was 1-5 on the power play while holding Oklahoma scoreless on five chances.

With the loss, the Lions dropped to 8-5-1 overall, but they remain a perfect 6-0-0 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL).  Lindenwood will return to conference play with a two game series against Ohio University November 14-15 on the road in Athens, Ohio.  The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday night.
