Lions Stopped by Ohio in OT

In a game highlighted by defensive play, men's ice hockey was stopped by Ohio University 2-1 in overtime Friday night at the Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.

Both of the regulation goals came in the first period.  The Bobcats sounded the horn first at the 5:09 mark.  The Lions countered when Jeremy Edwards and Jake Fairchild set up Daniel Rosse for the tying score with 6:54 remaining.  Then the teams settled in for over 50 minutes of scoreless hockey that stretched through the third period and over three minutes into the extra frame.  With 1:41 left, Ohio slipped the puck past Lindenwood goaltender Cody Karpinski for the winner.

The Lions net minder stopped 21 of the 23 shots he faced in the loss.  Lindenwood only mounted 12 shots against the Bobcats.  Both squads were thwarted on the power play with the Lions going scoreless in four chances and Ohio doing the same with five chances.

Lindenwood dropped to 8-6-1 overall and suffered the first loss of the year in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.  The Lions will try to end their mini two-game losing streak in the series finale Saturday night.  The puck drops at 7:30 p.m. in Athens, Ohio.
