Lions Lose Third Straight

While the number of shots on goal was even at 21, the final score was not, as Lindenwood was swept by Ohio by a score of 3-1 Saturday night at the Bird Arena in Athens, Ohio.  With the loss, the Lions have dropped three straight after winning the previous eight in a row.

The final period proved to be the difference after the two teams skated to a 1-1 tie through the first 40 minutes.  Lindenwood scored the opening goal of the game at the 6:34 mark in the first when Stephen Bopp fired a shot after being set up by Brennan Anderson and Lukas Daniels, but the Bobcats responded to tie the game on an even strength effort with 7:06 remaining.

Ohio took the lead midway through the third on a power play and added insurance five minutes later to put the game away.

Cody Karpinski stopped 18 of the 21 shots he faced in the loss.  Special teams play, which had been a strong point for the Lions, wasn't as strong this night, as Lindenwood was stopped on all five power play opportunities.  The Bobcats scored just once on six man-advantage chances, but that tally proved to be the game winner.

With the loss, the Lions fell to 8-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League.  They won't get any breaks in their next series as they travel to Edmond, Okla., to face the number one team in the country November 21-22.   The Bronchos will come in with a record of 18-1-0, having just lost their first game of the season Saturday to Colorado State.  The opening faceoff is set for 730 p.m. Friday night and again at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
