Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Penn State Hockey Wins First Battle Of Lions

The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell to Penn State on Friday night in University Park, Pa. by a 3-0 score.

The Nittany Lions came out hot as they outshot the Lady Lions by a 14-3 margin in the first period. Neither team scored though as Lindenwood's Nicole Hensley made saves on all 14 Penn State shots.

Lindenwood had the shots advantage in the second period, but it was Penn State that got on the scoreboard first. The Nittany Lions scored at the 10:37 mark of the period and they led 1-0 after two periods.

Only one penalty was called through the first two periods, but the power play helped Penn State put the game away in the final period. The Nittany Lions scored back-to-back power-play goals within 38 seconds of each other midway through the period to take a commanding 3-0 lead.

That was enough as Lindenwood managed just four shots the rest of the way as Penn State recorded its first shutout of the season.

Hensley finished the contest with 28 saves. Brooke Peden had a team-high three blocks, and Alyssa West led the team with three shots on goal.

Lindenwood and Penn State will continue their series on Saturday afternoon.
