The Lindenwood men's ice hockey team has spent the entire season on some type of streak. The Lions started the year with six straight losses before getting their first win, then they reeled off eight straight victories, only to be followed by three defeats in a row. That streak was extended Friday night when number one ranked Central Oklahoma edged Lindenwood 4-3 in Edmonds, Okla.
The Bronchos opened scoring with a shot that found the back of the net midway through the first period. The Lions tied the game with 5:04 remaining on a goal from Cody Barra, assisted by Mike Lozano and Graham Zagrodney.
Lindenwood had a power play chance early in the second, the Central Oklahoma turned the tables with a short-handed score. That seemed to switch momentum and the Bronchos added another two goals in the next 11 minutes, the first at even strength and the second on the power play. The Lions stopped the onslaught when Stephen Bopp set up Kevin Walters with 3:14 left to make it 4-2 heading into the final 20 minutes.
Solid offensive chances were tough to find in the third period as Lindenwood tried to mount a comeback, but less than a minute was remaining in regulation when Rock Einersen scored on a power play, assisted by Walters and Lukas Daniels. The clock ran out before Lindenwood could find the equalizer.
The Lions outshot the Bronchos 31-28 and went one for two on the power play while holding Central Oklahoma to a goal on four chances. Cody Karpinski stopped 24 of 28 shots in goal to take the loss for Lindenwood.
The Lions dropped to 8-7-2 on the season. They'll try to stop the current four game losing streak in the second game of the series with the Bronchos Saturday evening in Edmond, Okla.
