Men's ice hockey ended a four game losing streak with an exclamation point, stopping the number one ranked Central Oklahoma Broncos 1-0 Saturday in Edmond, Okla.
Freshman Michael Hails was the Star-of-the-Game as he stopped all 26 shots he faced to earn his first career shutout for the Lions. Riley Spraggs accounted for the only goal of the game when he was set up by Graham Zagrodney and Peppi Sipila at the 2:22 mark of the second period.
The penalty kill efforts were outstanding on both sides as the Lions held the Bronchos scoreless on seven power play chances while Lindenwood went 0-5.
Despite the lack of scoring, each team still managed to put the puck on net with Central Oklahoma holding a slight 26-25 advantage in shots.
In addition to putting a dent into the record of the top ranked team in the nation, the Lions improved to 9-7-2 for the season. After a break over Thanksgiving weekend, they'll return to action in the Central States Collegiate Hockey League for a two game set against Iowa State December 5-6 at home. The puck will drop at 7 p.m. that Friday night and then again at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.
