An early goal by the Syracuse women's hockey team turned out to be the only goal of the game as the Orange defeated Lindenwood on Friday night at the Lindenwood Ice Arena by a 1-0 score.
Â
Just over three minutes into the game, Jessica Sibley got a rebound in front of the Lindenwood net and slipped it past Lindenwood goalie
Nicole Hensley. The Orange controlled most of the first period as they only allowed three shots on goal.
Â
The Lady Lions had a good chance to tie the game in the second period with three power-play opportunities. They only got four shots though on those power plays and could not tie the game.
Â
Lindenwood outshot Syracuse in the final period by a 7-6 margin, but still could not get a goal. It had one more power-play opportunity in the final half of the period but once again came up empty.
Â
Syracuse had a 24-19 edge in shots for the game and both teams were 0-for-four on the power play.
Shara Jasper led the Lady Lions with six shots and
Brooke Peden had two blocks. Hensley finished with 23 saves.
Â
Lindenwood and Syracuse will battle again tomorrow at 3 p.m. in game two of the series.
