Lions Football Can't Hang On In Second Half Versus Central Oklahoma

The Lindenwood football team started its Senior Day by playing nearly even with one of the top teams in the MIAA, Central Oklahoma, for the first half. The Bronchos pulled away with a big second half though as the Lions fell 45-13.
 
The Lions came out and played their best first half of the season on Saturday. Lindenwood's defense allowed two touchdowns in the half, but forced one turnover and five punts. The offense scored three times in the half and had the lead on two separate occasions. Brandon White opened the scoring with a 41-yard field goal. After the Bronchos went ahead 7-3, Francisco Llanos scored on a three-yard pass from Graham Lindman. Central Oklahoma retook the lead late in the half, before White kicked a 38-yard field goal to make it 14-13 Bronchos at halftime.
 
Lindenwood's offense struggled early in the second half which allowed Central Oklahoma to pull away. The Lions went three-and-out on its first possession and Central Oklahoma went on a 12-play, 70-yard drive to go up 21-13. The Lions then threw interceptions on two straight drives, and Central Oklahoma scored touchdowns after both of them, including a 43-yard interception return touchdown that made the score 35-13. Central Oklahoma added 10 more points in the final quarter for the final points of the game.
 
The stats were completely different between the two halves. In the first, Lindenwood outgained Central Oklahoma 221-166, and the Lions had a +1 turnover margin. In the second half, the Bronchos had a 277-88 advantage in yards, and Central Oklahoma forced four more turnovers in that half.
 
Defensively, Connor Harris led the way again with his third game of the year with 20 or more tackles. He made 20 tackles exactly this time, including nine solo tackles. Clint Koons had nine tackles and a forced fumble. Steven pace finished with seven tackles, a sack, and an interception. D'Andre Green also had a sack, and DeShawn Lawson and Skyler Suggs assisted on a sack. Lawson and Jalin Brown both forced a fumble, and Samson Si'a recovered a fumble.
 
Lindman finished the game with 299 yards passing and the one touchdown throw. Greg Coble had a career-high 101 receiving yards on six receptions. Marvin Byrd rushed for 18 yards and caught seven passes for 58 yards. Lavorrie Johnson had four receptions for 68 yards and 19 rushing yards.
 
Game Notes: Lindenwood falls to 1-9 overall and 1-9 in the MIAA … Central Oklahoma goes to 8-2 overall and 8-2 in the MIAA … the all-time series between the two teams is now tied at 1-1 … Lindenwood's 299 passing yards were 132 more than Central Oklahoma is allowing on the season … Connor Harris now has 16 games with double-figure tackles in his career … Graham Lindman's 27 completions were a career-high for the freshman quarterback … today's game was the final game at Hunter Stadium for 17 seniors … Lindenwood ends its season next week with a road contest at Northeastern State.
