Lindenwood's women's ice hockey team played a pair of overtime games this weekend, falling in the first, but managing to find a way to get the win tonight, beating CHA conference opponent Robert Morris 4-3.
Lindenwood got their first goal on a shot from center ice from
Jordyn Constance, who was in the process of heading to the bench when she heard the buzzer go off. Assisting on the shot was
Britannia Gillanders. That would be the only goal of the first period, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead at the first break.
Robert Morris answered back in the second period with two goals to take the lead, 2-1. In the third period
Lyndsay Kirkham followed up a shot by Darby Dobbs to earn her first goal of the season. Robert Morris quickly answered back with a goal only 12 seconds of game play later to give Robert Morris a 3-2 lead. Lindenwood once again answered back on a power-play goal from Constance to send the game into overtime.
Once in overtime, both teams exchanged opportunities, but the first team to seize its opportunity was Lindenwood.
Katie Erickson scored the goal for the Lindenwood to seal a victory, just under three minutes into the overtime.
Lindenwood had less penalty minutes with just two minutes compared to Robert Morris's four. Robert Morris dominated the faceoff battle by winning 43 to Lindenwood's 27. Robert Morris also had more shots 40 compared to Lindenwood's 24. Goalie
Nicole Hensley had 37 saves to help Lindenwood win its third game of the season.
The win moves the Lady Lions record to 3-6-1 and 2-1-1 in CHA play. Coming up next for the Lady Lions is a contest against Penn State University in University Park, Pa. on November 11th.
