Lions Split with Cyclones

After a shootout win Friday night, men's ice hockey lost 2-1 to Iowa State Saturday afternoon in a Central States Collegiate Hockey League (CSCHL) tilt at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.

The Cyclones were opportunistic early in the contest.  While killing off a penalty, they turned the tables on the Lions for a short-handed goal at the 5:51 mark of the first period.  Lindenwood tied the game with 3:01 remaining in the second when Mitch Riese set up Brett Bauza, but Iowa State countered just 17 second later to take a 2-1 lead.  That goal proved to be the difference as the Cyclones held the Lions scoreless the rest of the game.

Michael Hails stopped 23 of 25 shots for Lindenwood in a losing effort.  The Lions outshot Iowa State 32-25, but went 0-6 on the power play while holding the Cyclones scoreless on three chances.

With the loss, Lindenwood dropped to 10-8-2 overall and 7-2-1 in the CSCHL.  The Lions get the next month off before returning to the ice for a conference series with Ohio January 10-11, 2015.  The opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. that Saturday night and then again at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena in Wentzville, Mo.  Both games are available to watch live via pay-per-view streaming through STL Sports Productions.
