The Lindenwood wrestling team placed second in the MIAA Championship on Sunday as the Lions had individual accomplishments as well.
When looking at the success of a team it starts at the top and the Lions look no further than head coach
Chad Smith who earned MIAA Coach of the Year for helping this program move to a No. 7 National ranking heading into the weekend.
The Lions had great success on Sunday including
Marco Tamayo at the 125 weight class. Tamayo defeated Connor Bolling of Nebraska-Kearney 10-4 to claim the MIAA Championship for his weight class.
John McArdle did not disappoint as he scored double-digit points before pinning Jon Inman of Nebraska-Kearney with just 26 seconds to go to earn the 184 weight class championship.
Steven Butler defeated Jack Page of Fort Hays after falling behind. Butler came back to earn a 5-2 victory and was crowned the heavyweight MIAA Champion.
Matt Katusin pinned his opponent Hunter Neighbors of Central Missouri in the third place match at the 133 weight class. No. 7
Terrel Wilbourn dropped No. 3 Jordan Basks from Central Oklahoma in the 149 weight class to claim third place.
Derrick Weller finished third in the 157 weight class and
Kenny Breaux was the third place finisher in his weight class of 197 pounds.
Kyle Webb,
Luke Roth, and
Morgan Fitzgerald each placed fourth in each of their weight classes.
No. 2 Nebraska-Kearney took the 2014 MIAA Championship title and No. 5 Central Oklahoma placed third. No. 1 Cory Dauphin of the 157 weight class was named MIAA Wrestler of the Year and Jon Inman of Nebraska-Kearney earned the title of MIAA Freshman of the Year.
The 2014 Central Super Regional will begin on Friday, February 28
th at 10 a.m. at the Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Okla.
