The Lindenwood University roller hockey gold squad swept the weekend's slate of games at the Midwest Collegiate Roller Hockey League (MCRHL) Inter-Regional in suburban Chicago February 1-2. The Lions recorded three wins against B Division opponents Grand Valley State, Michigan State Gold Squad, and Bethel University (Tenn.).
The Lions got off to a solid start in the first game of the weekend by defeating Grand Valley State 6-1. Adam Dowling recorded two goals while Mitch Moeller scored a goal and two assists. Lindenwood pummeled GVSU in shots to finish the game with a 36-8 shot advantage. Brennen Sowa stopped 7 of 8 to record the win in goal for the Lions
Lindenwood faced familiar opponent Michigan State Green Squad in the second game and defeated the Spartans 5-4 with the help of two unanswered goals in the third period. Justin Steller led the offense with a hat trick and an assist while Evan Schulte scored a goal and had two helpers. Charles Robinson stopped 11 of 15 between the pipes for Lindenwood.
The Lions capped off the weekend sweep with a 5-2 victory over Bethel University (Tenn.). Lindenwood jumped out to a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period and netted two additional goals in the second and third periods to secure the win. Parker Poore scored a goal and recorded an assist while Robinson made 13 saves in goal.
The Lindenwood gold squad extended the team's win streak to a season-high 10 games and improved their overall record to 18-3-0. The Lions return home to The Wheel of Wright City, Mo. for a three-game home stand February 8-9. The puck drops against Kansas State (DII) and St. Louis Community College at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Missouri State (DII) at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
